Alfonso X of Castile's Libro de los juegos (Book of Games) or Libro de axedrez, dados e tablas (Book of chess, dicing and tables)
Alfonso X is believed to have commissioned this as a translation from one or more Arabic texts. It was completed in 1283 C.E. Scans of the only surviving manuscript can be seen here, containing a wealth of images showing the games and pieces at play. Sonja Musser Golladay translated it into modern English, and generously made her complete translation available for download here. Wikipedia has a good history and description of the book here, and a brief biography of Alfonso X here.
